Default Probing the bulldog???

have been tinkering around with the bulldog.357 and currently have opened up the ports to 9/32” and have been able to achieve a maximum speed of 860 FPS and a slowest of 842 FPS with 153gr cast bullets. This is a substantial improvement from stock but there isn’t a lot more that I can do with the platform without sending it off to a professional. That being said, has anyone tried probing the bolt yet? Using cast bullets it should increase the speed slightly. I was thinking about ordering another bolt just to try and see what is or isn’t gained.

Any suggestions on length and width of such probe?

I am still fine tuning the probe for length but so far I have gotten excellent results with an increase in speed on a 150gr bullet of 39fps. It was certainly not easy as none of the “experts” would comment and one even insisted that he had tried it and lost speed. The biggest two issues are ensuring that the probe is long enough that the bullet completely cleared the transfer port on the barrel and ensuring that it did not catch when inserting the magazine into the rifle. I used a 1/8” probe and used epoxy to secure it in the cut off and drilled bolt face.

As I finalize the modification and tweak it I will post more photos as well as a tutorial on what needs to happen for a successful probe to be installed.

Working on a retractable probe design now that should give more airflow.

Still blowing money on airguns of course!

The retractable probe will be very difficult to bring to fruition. The bolt itself isn't very long so adding internal pieces without getting in the way of existing pins will be quite the challenge. I have not given up yet though. Got a couple other builds out front of it though now so may take awhile! I am at 944 FPS with 150gr slugs at the moment so am quite happy with that!!
